Hataw Activity

Team building activity conducted as "Hataw Activity" to SURNECO employees that will promote physical fitness as well as build camaraderie among employees.


Initiated "Bayanihan" clearing activities, a joined force of SURNECO employees in facilitating clearing of trees and lines in the different coverage areas of the cooperative.


Conducted “Blood Letting” activity in collaboration with REACT Philippines, Inc. on September 19, 2014 at SURNECO Main office.



The Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SURNECO) is an Electric Distribution Utility located at the Northeastern tip of Mindanao with its Main Office at 01308 Narciso cor. Espina Streets, Surigao City, the capital of Surigao del Norte province. It provides power to its coverage area consisting of eleven (11) mainland municipalities plus the City of Surigao. It also serves the island customers of Hikdop comprising of the (7) seven Barangays of Surigao City as the Small Power Utility Group (SPUG). It continuously extends services to the franchise coverage area, facing the challenge of modern power business landscape and creating a new environment for its development and progress.

The Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SURNECO), was formally incorporated and registered under PD 269 with the National Electrification Administration (NEA) on September 24, 1977. After obtaining a P 3.5 M loan with NEA, it took over the ownership, management, and operation of the Surigao Electric Company in Surigao City, which was then owned by the Lumanlan's through a purchase agreement on June 26,1978.

SURNECO's first energization ceremony was conducted on September 9, 1980 at the Imelda Village / Kaskag Terminal in Surigao City. It also energized the 11 municipalities from December 1980 to December 1981. The 100 percent energization of 203 barangays of SURNECO's coverage area was attained in 2006. As of December 31, 2010, it has connected 57,728 households or 99 percent of potential house connections of 58,543 with a total registered membership of 57,629 or 99% of potential members of 58,163 and billed consumers of 55,280. The circuit kilometers of lines span 589.314 kilometers of primary line and 519.713 kilometers of secondary lines for a total of 1,109.027 kilometers. It has annual revenue of P 461,535,691 correspondingly with 111,180,689 KWH and an annual peak load demand of 24, 630 KW. It operates with four (4) Sub Areas that caters currently to its existing member-consumers of its coverage area. SURNECO's power sources are for the Generation, NPC-Genco at Main Grid and SPUG at the Hikdop island while Transmission, with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). For its technical capacity, it has four (4) substations, (5 MVA and 10 MVA) located at Brgy. Trinidad, Surigao City, 5 MVA substation at Brgy. Mapaso, Placer Surigao del Norte and recently energized 20MVA Substation at Sitio Looc, Brgy. Luna, Surigao City. NEA classifies SURNECO as an Extra Large Cooperative with 158 employees, categorized as a Class "A+" Cooperative.
